What is copywriting?
To use the Wikipedia definition, “copywriting is the act of writing copy (text) for the purpose of advertising or marketing a product, business, person, opinion or idea. The addressee (reader, listener, etc.) of the copy is meant to be persuaded to buy the product advertised for, or subscribe to the viewpoint the text shares”.
Why do I need a copywriter?
In the same way as you would hire a plumber to fix a broken sink or an accountant to balance your books, working with a freelance copywriter is the ideal way to come up with powerful marketing messages or calls to action for your business. A copywriter spends every day absorbed in the written word and understands how to best use words to nurture customer relationships, generate interest and secure sales.
Why should I use The Freelance Copywriter?
I am a freelance copywriter with twelve years’ in-house and freelance experience. Having run my own business for nearly ten years and worked with clients – big and small – across a wide range of sectors, I understand the challenges small businesses face. Although it’s tempting to write your own website copy, blog posts, brochures or press releases, paying a professional copywriter like me can free up your valuable time so that you can concentrate on the areas of your business that made you go out on your own in the first place. My rates are competitive – I’m not the cheapest copywriter you’ll come across, nor am I the most expensive. What I do offer is the value of my experience, ideas and versatility, as well as a personal and friendly service. I am 100% committed to providing you with copywriting that works for your business and reflects the needs of your customers.
What type of copywriting do you specialise in?
These days, my passion is working with small businesses. As a small business owner myself, I understand how you often have to wear a lot of different hats to get things done. It can be tempting to write your own copy when your time and talents may be better spent elsewhere. As a freelance copywriter, I can provide valuable ad hoc support to small businesses and make a big impact for a relatively small investment. There is nothing more satisfying than helping a company create its brand, its tone of voice and speak to its ideal customers.
I started my copywriting career working for Nottingham Trent University writing prospectuses, brochures, guides and leaflets for the marketing team. These publications were aimed at undergraduate, postgraduate and international recruitment. My education copywriting has continued with a number of other universities, including The University of Nottingham, as well as schools and colleges in the UK.
Since going freelance in 2003, I have worked with a large number of healthcare organisations and written extensively for both NHS and private services. My copy is warm, readable and easy to understand. I am especially experienced when it comes to writing about dentistry and facial aesthetics.
Do you offer SEO copywriting?
I do indeed. These days, I write for a lot of websites and understand how choosing the right keywords, meta data and content can all have an impact on your search engine rankings. I understand too the importance of creating copy that, as well as offering real value to your customers, has more likelihood of being shared, commented on and linked back to from other websites and social media platforms. You can read more about my SEO copywriting services here on the site.
Can you help me with my blog?
I’d be happy to help you with your blog. In fact, I offer a range of different blog packages designed to make this service flexible and affordable, whatever your budget. Blogs are a great way of building a relationship with your customers, establishing your reputation as an expert and creating that all-important fresh content that appeals to search engines. You can read more about my blog copywriting service on this site and find some of my recent blogs in my portfolio (sometimes it isn’t possible to feature my blog posts in my portfolio if they have been ghostwritten for someone else).
How much do you charge?
I hate to be vague because I know it’s frustrating for you, especially if you came to this page looking for definitive prices. The thing is that it’s hard to say exactly how much I will charge without knowing anything about your project. I’ve given some general information on my Copywriting Rates page and I hope you find this of some help. I would definitely recommend giving me a call on 07960 958 820 or dropping me a quick email so that I can come up with a proper quote. If you have a set budget, let me know and I’ll do what I can to accommodate it.
How quickly can you produce copy?
The answer to this question really depends on a few different factors. These days, my diary tends to be booked up six to eight weeks in advance (sometimes more and occasionally less), so I may not be able to turn something around this week. It will also depend on what you need from me – for example, copy for a whole website would take much longer than a blog – and how much research is involved. These best thing to do is contact me and I can give you some idea about my availability and turnaround times.
Do I have to give you a formal brief?
Not at all, although it helps. We can always chat through what you need from me over the phone or via email – whatever’s convenient for you – or I do have a briefing form that I can email out to you. There are lots of questions on it but you can skip the bits that aren’t relevant and stick to bullet points and notes rather than a full blown essay. I understand that different people prefer to brief in different ways, so I’ll be as flexible as you need me to be.
How many sets of amendments do you include in your price?
I usually offer to do two sets of amendments as part of the initial agreed fee. Further amendments may be carried out at an hourly charge. You can read more about what my prices include in my Copywriting Terms and Conditions.
Where are you based?
I’m in Nottingham in the UK.
Do you only work with UK-based clients?
I am delighted to work with clients from all over the world. The great thing about being a freelance copywriter is that I can support any team or project remotely.
How can I contact you?
You’re very welcome to get in touch by email, phone or the quick and easy contact form on this website. If I’m not at my desk or completely absorbed in my latest project, I’ll give you a call or email back as soon as possible.
