This 12-page brochure provided
prospective further education students with an introduction to
the resources and facilities at the Brackenhurst School of
Land-based Studies in Nottingham.
It was part of a redesign of marketing
materials and their contents for the school. The brochure
required thorough research and the copy needed to be friendly
and welcoming.

Going to university is an expensive
experience and none more so than for a student’s parents.
The Parents’ Guide was one of the first university
publications to give parents the information they need about
the university application process and the university
experience itself.
This project required extensive research
in order to provide a comprehensive and accurate range of
information.

The point of the self-guided tour is to
let people explore Nottingham Trent at their own convenience.
I walked the route I was writing about in
preparation for putting this guide together. It was a
really good exercise in writing plain English as I certainly
didn’t want people getting lost when they visited
Nottingham!

Writing for a postgraduate audience
requires a slightly different tone of copy. Postgraduate
students are likely to have a different set of priorities to
undergraduates when choosing a university.
At the same time, because this brochure
was for the same organisation as the material above, it was
important to communicate a consistent message and identity
through the copy.
